Dhal Makhani


Ingredients:

Whole urad dhal - 1 cup
Grated ginger - 1tbs
Minced ginger & garlic -1 tbsp
onion (thinly chopped ,optional)- 1 medium
tomatoes, finely chopped -2-3 medium
Garam Masala- 1/2 tsp.
cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Red chilli powder (accord to taste)
fresh cream - 1/2 cup
chopped coriander leaves -2 tbs.

Procedure:
  • Wash and soak black urad whole overnight.
  • Pressure cook the soaked dal in 5-6 cups of water with salt, red chili powder,turmeric, and grated ginger.
  • Lightly mash dal mixture, keep aside.
  • Heat oil or butter in a thick bottomed pan.
  • Add little cumin seeds and hing, let it crackle.
  • Add ginger, garlic, chopped onions, and cook till light golden brown in color.
  • Add garam masala and chopped tomatoes.
  • Sauté till tomatoes are well mashed and fat starts to leave the masala.
  • Add mashed dal to this mixture and little water ( desired consistency).
  • Simmer at very slow flame for 15-20 minutes.
  • Add fresh cream and let it simmer for 5 minutes and turn off the heat.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves before serving.
