Ingredients:
Thur dhal -1/2 cup
Turmeric powder - a pinch
Tamarind - 1/2 lime size
curry leaves
salt - as per taste
Sambar Powder - readymade or
sambar powder at home -(as given below)
coriander seeds - 1cup
chana dhal -1/4 cup
red chillies - 3
fenugreek -1/2 tsp
asafoetida- a bit
coconut (dry)- 1 tbl sp
fry all the above and powder it in mixie.)
Procedure:
Soak the tamarind in a cup of water for 15 mts. Cook the thur dal in the cooker with turmeric powder. Extract the tamarind juice.
Heat little oil and add mustard seeds. When they crackle, add the onions and fry till they are golden brown. Then add tamarind juice and boil for 10 mts.
Add the dhal, salt, sambar powder (3 tsp) and allow it to boil till u get the consistency.
Add curry leaves.
Vegs that can be added:
Raddish / drumstick /ladiesfinger can be added once the mustard crackles..
